Lesson Title: Global Warming Research Project Day 2

State Standards: GLEs/GSEs

PS1 (7-8) – 4 Students demonstrate an understanding of states of matter by …explaining the effect of increased and decreased heat energy on the motion and arrangement of molecules.
PS2 (7-8) – 7 Students demonstrate an understanding of heat energy by…explaining the difference among conduction, convection and radiation and creating a diagram to explain how heat energy travels in different directions and through different materials by each of these methods.

Context of Lesson:

This lesson is a trip to the library to allow the students in-class time to research their topics. While in the library the librarian or I will be going over MLA format for the research paper. Students will specifically learn about in text citation and how to write an appropriate work cited page.

Opportunities to Learn:

Materials:

  • Library or computer lab.
  • Exit Shhets

Professional Resources:

N/A

Classroom Environment:

Students will be working individually at the computers.

Differentiating Instruction:

Students with document disabilities will be given a modified for of the assignment. They will have the specific compare and contrast point given to them.

Cooperative Learning:

N/A

Depth of Knowledge:

Level 3 (Strategic Thinking)

Objectives:

  • Students will find four sources of information that is in reference to conduction, convection, and thermal radiation to 90% proficiency.
  • Students will properly cite the conduction, convection, and thermal radiation reference material in MLA format to 80% proficiency.

Instruction:

Opening:

Intro to why we are at the library and what is expected of them. I will also remind them of how to use citation machine.

Engagement:

Student research.

Closure:

Exit sheet showing what they have accomplished.

Assessment:
